“I first began playing the violin with the Victoria Symphony when I was twenty years old and working toward a Music Performance degree at the University of Victoria. Apart from several years in Toronto, where I played with Canada’s National Ballet Company Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, I have continued to play here for more than thirty years. I have been involved with various chamber ensembles, most memorably the Festival Consort of Early Music and have spent most of my life teaching violin lessons. I am trained as a Suzuki Violin teacher and currently teach at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.”
Hometown: Victoria, BC
First season with the VS: 1982/83
Most memorable VS experience: My most memorable experiences with the orchestra are those moments when I’m made suddenly and exquisitely aware of the fantastic musicians surrounding me. There are times when I am caught off guard by the beauty of the music and am left completely in awe. I cannot adequately describe how I feel being in the centre of such magnificent sound. I am thrilled and honored to play with this wonderful group of people.
Hobbies and interests: Aside from music, what I love to do most is write. I usually have more than one project on the go, and I feel fortunate to have had several poems published in Canadian literary magazines.
Favourite things to do around the capital region: I love to be near the ocean at pretty much any time of year and fortunately, Victoria has many beautiful beaches to choose from. I also enjoy activities that carry a whiff of the past. I love to while away time in Munro’s Books, peruse photos at the B.C. archives, and visit English Tea rooms.
